The Turkish public prosecutor has demanded a prison sentence of five to ten years against the Dutch rapper Murda. He would have encouraged drug use in his song lyrics, according to Turkish media.

Murda (37), the stage name of Önder Doğan, was arrested by the Turkish authorities last week after he flew from Copenhagen to Istanbul. On arrival, he was stopped at the airport because an investigation had been launched into his lyrics.

Monday seemed to be the case with a sizzle. Murda was released, and his manager said the investigation was “in principle” closed. But if the prosecution’s charges are upheld, Murda must still appear in court in the coming days.

“Murda is Dutch, has no Turkish nationality and publishes his songs in the Netherlands,” Alper Bulduk, an employee of the rapper, previously told Dutch media. He thinks the allegations are nonsense. “Murda raps that he smokes a joint himself, absolutely not that people should smoke joints.”
