In the song Up, produced by DJ SwanQo and Young Dza, the Bronx bonze shoots an effective egotrip with multiple sexual evocations. Nothing to do with the children’s film of the same name, it goes without saying. The controversial billionaire Spotify-listening singer says she was inspired by the chill scene, a violence-ridden musical subgenre of southern Chicago.
The clip, signed by Ukrainian director Tanu Muino, reinforces Cardi B’s rebellious demeanor, both hypersexual and fiercely feminist. The first scene shows the rapper’s stiletto heel resting on the silhouette of a male sex, in front of a tombstone inscribed: “RIP 2020”. The tone is set.
