Alappuzha: Uttar Pradesh took a huge lead at the end of the third day of the Ranji Trophy cricket match against Kerala. Kerala were all out for 243 yesterday, giving up a lead of 59 runs against UP’s first innings score of 302 runs. UP then played the second innings and at the end of the game on the third day, they were 219 runs for the loss of one wicket in 62 overs. This gave them a lead of 278 runs.
Yesterday morning, Kerala started the first innings at 220/6 and lost the remaining four wickets while scoring 23 runs in nine overs. Ankit Rajput took all the four wickets yesterday. With this, Ankit completed five wickets.
In the second innings, captain Aryan Juyal’s brilliant century made UP strong. Aryan Juyal remained unbeaten on 115 off 186 balls with four sixes and seven fours. While Samarth Singh was dismissed with 43 runs, Priyam Garg, who remained unbeaten on 49 runs including five boundaries, helped Juyal while playing. On the second ball of the 26th over, Samarth was trapped in front of the wicket by Jalaj Saxena. Kerala squandered a golden opportunity to dismiss substitute Garg in the 28th over with a personal score of four on a forward shot leg.
In the first innings, Kerala lost the wickets of Shreyas Gopal (36), Jalaj Saxena (7), Basil Thampi (2) and Vysakh Chandran (5). MD Nidhish remained unbeaten with 15 runs including one six and two fours. Due to lack of light, the game was called off around 4.30 pm.
