Documentary Sunday, October 1
Hardi Lediņas (1955–2004) would have turned 6 this year. At the moment, it can be said that Hardijs Lediņš has been canonized as a classic of avant-garde art, 2015 has been declared the year of Hardijs Lediņš, in the framework of which reconstructions of his performances, exhibitions, concerts and discussions about Lediņš’s contribution to the development of Latvian contemporary art are taking place. But how was the unique personality of Hardijas Lediņš formed? The TV documentary My forest is nobody explores how, in the darkest time of Soviet stagnation (70s and 80s), when currents and ideas of Western contemporary art were carefully hidden behind the iron curtain, Ledin’s glorious, avant-garde and surreal ideas could arise and be realized? Behind Hardy’s imposing stature, outwardly unshakable calmness, attractive coziness and eternal cigarette smoke hides a sensitive, easily hurt and lonely personality, whose fate is a fairly typical path of an artist – innovator – not to be fully appreciated and understood during his lifetime, but to continue living in his art, thereby influencing the new generation of artists and the overall picture of contemporary art. Despite success, appreciation, a loyal circle of fans, relatives and associates, he remained alone in his art forest. The film features the mother of Hardija Lediņa, translator Rute Lediņa, as well as his friends and co-implementers of creative ideas – musician Inguna Rubene, Yellow Postman Ingus Bauškėnieks, artist Leonards Laganovskis, musician and DJ Roberts Gobziņs, music critic Artemijs Troickis, Berlin curator Barbara Štraka. Director – Kristīne Želve, cinematographer Mārtiņs Šalmis, artist – Ineta Sipunova. The film was made in cooperation with the Contemporary Art Center of Latvia.
