JANGKARA.com – The James Webb Space Telescope continues to provide answers about the beginning of the universe, but it also raises more and more new questions, question marks, to be more precise.
The James Webb Space Telescope team at the European Space Agency (ESA) released this image on Wednesday, June 26, 2023, offering a detailed view of two young, actively forming stars located 1,470 light years from Earth in the constellation Vela.
Beneath the stars, in the backdrop of a stunning deep space image, sits an object that resembles a giant cosmic question mark. Is the universe asking us questions?

Reported by Jangkara.com From the Space.com website, it’s not yet clear what the question mark-shaped object might be, but its color and shape give us some clues.
“Perhaps these are distant galaxies, or possibly interacting galaxies (their interaction may have led to a distorted question mark shape),” said a representative for the Space Telescope Science Institute (STScI) in Baltimore, which manages the SPACE TELESCOPE scientific operations. According to the STScI, the red color of the object in the James Webb Space Telescope image tells scientists that the object, whatever it is, is quite far away.

More interestingly, this may be the first time astronomers have seen such a cosmic question mark.
“This is probably the first time we have seen this object,” added STScI.
“Additional follow-up is needed to find out exactly what it is. The James Webb Space Telescope is showing lots of new, distant galaxies, so there’s lots of new research to be done!”
Matt Caplan, an assistant professor of physics at Illinois State University, told Space.com that the object may be two galaxies in the process of merging.

“These two distinct features could easily become merging galaxies, with the top question mark being part of a larger tidally disrupted galaxy,” Caplan said.
