While in Germany for Gamescom this year, we had the chance to speak with the developers behind the upcoming Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden. We caught up with Don’t Nod’s Philippe Moreau (Game Director) and Karim Benfares (Executive Producer) about their upcoming project. In that interview, which you can read in full below, we asked the couple what inspired the action-adventure project.
“So in terms of inspiration, let’s say The Revenant’s cinematography, you know, the background,”Moreau said.“Otherwise? In terms of gameplay, maybe for the combat system, we studied a lot of God of War because we knew it was a system that would be a great fit for the gameplay. So we tried something very different from Vampyr, which is Our first action RPG, we believe we’ve made a really good and dynamic action game this time around.
Ben Fars went on to say: “Yeah, I think the other main inspiration for Outcast was definitely vampires. We had to talk about it because in Outcast we wanted to reuse the expertise we got from vampires. For example, in , we encountered the conflicted situation of the main character, Jonathan Reed. He is a vampire, but he is also a doctor. Keeping this paradoxical situation. One alive, one dead, they’re ghost hunters, but they’re haunted by ghosts. It offers a lot of subtlety in terms of the situation being narrated. Well, we also have morals in The Outcast Choices, like in Vampire, we believe this creates a lot of complex choices for the player.
Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden launches on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series consoles on November 7, 2023, and we’ve just recently seen a ton of extra gameplay for the game, which you can find here.
