Alfa Romeo’s past is clearly linked to competition. The sports cars have marked history from the Italian firm, which currently has a very different philosophy: more focused on SUVs and electrification. However, that does not mean that they did not have space for other types of vehicles. We were surprised to find the Alfa Romeo F12 Vanbut not just any one. It is a version closely linked to the world of racing, which even hides a surprise inside.
To put us in context, the F12 is a van, a commercial vehicle that was born in 1967 and that it continued the saga started by the mythical T10 “Autotutto” (the car for everything). In fact, a very striking curiosity about this model is that it was made in Spain, specifically by FADISA (Factory of Diesel Automobiles SA) at its facilities in Avila. The F12s were even marketed here as Ebro (F100 and F108), but that’s a story for another day. Returning to the Italian model, it has a series of curiosities that are worth mentioning.
In the exhibited unit, which will be auctioned soon, a very racing decoration has been chosen for a specific reason. And it was the support vehicle for the Moto Villa competition team, who dominated the motocross arena in the 1970s in his native Italy. The truth is that later, this van fell into oblivion until 2016, when it was recovered by Ed Seymour. As a good Alfa Romeo specialist restorer, he set to work on it to leave it in immaculate condition.
That includes pretty much all of its components to leave it in showroom condition. adopted at the livery of Autodelta and the mythical colors of the Alfa Romeo racing cars. Inside it was also returned to its original state, with a totally new upholstery and a functional dashboard. Although the most striking thing about the Alfa Romeo F12 Furgone is probably its configuration.
As they wanted to make a front-wheel drive model, the Alfa people thought that the engine could also be in that area, but without having to extend the nose or the overhang. so they decided mount the mechanics right on the axis, which in this case corresponds to the gap between the driver and the passenger. We do not know if that block of 1.3-liter DOHC four-cylinder with a single carburettor, which delivers 53 hp and is linked to a four-speed manual gearbox.
As a note and detail of the Alfa Romeo F12 Furgone: also includes another display engine in your cargo area. It is a 1.3-liter that comes from a 1958 Alfa Romeo 750 Series and is also fully restored and like new. The truth is that it is one of the most curious specimens that we have found in recent times. Perhaps that is why it is expected to reach a price between 100,000 and 130,000 euros.
