Unvaccinated 31-month-old child in critical condition diagnosed in intensive care

A 31-month-old boy visited Queen Elizabeth Hospital’s emergency room yesterday with a fever and tested positive for the new coronavirus, the HA said. The boy has not been vaccinated against the new corona, and is currently being treated in the critically ill pediatric intensive care unit.

The hospital authority said vaccination against COVID-19 can provide effective protection for children and adolescents, effectively reduce serious illness and mortality, and call on parents to have their children vaccinated against COVID-19 as soon as possible .

In addition, on the 13th of this month a 90-year-old male patient was tested and confirmed in the rehabilitation ward of the orthopedics and traumatology ward of the Tuen Mun hospital rehabilitation building. The hospital initiated a contact tracing investigation and found that three other male patients between the ages of 55 and 74 had been diagnosed in the same ward. The hospital is investigating the link in the case.

All patients are treated in isolation and are in stable condition. The departments concerned have suspended the new cases and visit methods. The hospital has carried out thorough cleaning and disinfection in the affected places and will strengthen the implementation of infection control measures.
