Snow weather and cold temperatures have led to slippery conditions on several roads in southern Norway. Several police districts have reported traffic accidents and vehicles in trouble on Friday night.
At 20.40, the Innlandet police district reports a chain collision on the E6 at Biri. Four cars with a total of six people must be involved. All persons are out of the cars, and must be up and running.
– It is very slippery on the spot, the police write on Twitter.
The ambulance arrives on the scene, and the traffic flows smoothly past.
Clear call
The chain collision is one of several traffic accidents in Eastern Norway on Friday. The Eastern Police District reports a traffic accident on Fv120 Hobølveien at 6.30 pm. No injuries were reported, but according to police, the cause of the accident was that it was very slippery on the spot.
The South-East police district also reported slippery driving conditions after a taxi had slipped off the road and ended up in a stone fence on Rv505 by Hå.
– We have had some minor accidents. Among other things, a car that has driven in the guardrail in Horgenkrysset along the E6. It is clear that it is a different road than a few weeks ago, but it is completely normal winter road, says traffic operator at Vegtrafikksentralen øst, Trude Lindstad, to Dagbladet
She has a clear appeal to people who are out driving:
– Slow down and keep your distance from cars in front of you.
“Queue and chaos” throughout the day
Snow weather creates problems in the west
In Tysvær in Rogaland, several trailers have been stuck on slippery roads. There will be a lot of queues at the site, the police report.
– The police and bulldozer are on site. Very slippery roads, the police write on Twitter at 7.30 pm.
Operations Manager Irene Ragnhildstveit in the South-West police district says that a detour for passenger cars and manual traffic routing have now been implemented on site.
This is just one of several traffic challenges the police district has reported on Friday.
– Slippery is one of several contributing causes. It helps to play a small role today. Snow was reported in the district, then it should not come as a surprise to people that it is slippery, says the operations manager to Dagbladet.
Siberian cold on the way up: – Minus 40 degrees
“Unusually smooth”
The snow weather that has characterized Rogaland, has on Friday night begun to extend over Vestland county. Minus degrees cause this snow to settle on the roads. Traffic operator in Vegtrafikksentralen Vest, Jørgen Bødtker, says that the Norwegian Public Roads Administration now has all available crews on the roads.
– Those who are out in the traffic must of course make sure that they are properly shod. If you have summer tires, you have nothing to do on the road. In addition, road users must adapt their speed to the conditions. It can be very local conditions on long stretches of road, so people have to be a little careful, he says to Dagbladet.
It is especially slippery over the Hardangervidda. On Friday afternoon, the emergency services moved out after reports of a traffic accident on Rv7 by Krossdalen. A car had gone off the road and rolled around. No injuries were reported. Vegtrafikksentralen Vest described the road as unusually slippery “, in a message on Twitter.
– It has been very slippery on a stretch along Rv7. It often happens like this when there is an ongoing storm, with a lot of snow, and very cold. It is especially cold on the Hardangervidda. We have contractors out now who are paving the road, and are carrying out a friction measurement to assess whether further measures should be implemented, explains traffic operator Bødtker.
