The population of jellyfish in the seas around Greece has grown to unusual sizes, announced BNT.
It is believed that the most important factor for this is high temperatures of sea water, which favor their faster reproduction. Another reason for their large number is overfishing, which reduces the natural enemies of jellyfish and also helps increase their population.
Meanwhile, scientists explain that the appearance of harmless but unpleasant sea slime, also known as “sea snot”, in the northern and central Aegean this year is a temporary phenomenon and is not typical of the Greek seas. Sea slime is mainly due to the extreme algae blooms this year in the Sea of Marmara, Kathimerini notes.
