the essentials We consulted the guestbook of the city of Toulouse, a veritable book of all-out grievances which conceals a few pearls.
We don’t think about it enough, but the city of Toulouse’s guestbook, made available to visitors at the reception of the Capitol and in which one can address the mayor, is an attraction in itself. At the same time a book of grievances, words from tourists amazed by the “beauty” of the Pink City, encouragement and harsh criticism during election campaigns, job applications, neighborhood problems, incivilities denounced…
On reading the various volumes consulted, since the last mandate of the former socialist mayor Pierre Cohen until this year, the guestbook is nevertheless teeming with unusual words, offbeat situations, a few drawings, but not only. In the majority of cases, the messages are addressed to the mayor of Toulouse and president of Toulouse Métropole Jean-luc Moudenc. “Every month, the messages are copied and a copy is given to the mayor who reads them all”, ensures the communication department.
There is plenty to choose from. Like this recent report from a Toulousain who combines setbacks with the administration in terms of resident parking. “It is a new difficulty to obtain resident parking because we live at the corner of a street and the EDF invoices indicate two addresses…” without solution, he finally asks: “Is it the town hall of Toulouse who will pay private car parks or fines?”
It was also recently the violent riots, following the death of young Nahel, killed during a police check, on June 27, in Nanterre, which inspired this anonymous reflection: “Mr. Mayor, what an awful episode that we have just everyone to live, elected officials in particular. Many questions arise in our society and we have, I think, a share of the responsibility. It is up to all of us to act and talk to each other to try to understand why this violence against ourselves…”
Another, who signs “cordially”, wonders what the town hall of Toulouse has been doing since he “heard of a device allowing us to receive 400 euros from certain town halls in France: by offering our time to a association, it is a priori for young people.” Finally, we should probably take seriously the request of this elderly couple who found themselves in embarrassment at the Japanese garden of Compans-Caffarelli. “On Sunday, we went to the Japanese garden, but we are incontinent retirees. We asked to go to the toilet, we were told to go urinate in nature (including the garden). For a woman, it’s tricky. Hoping that soon, there will be sanisettes at our disposal”.
