The bigger it is, the more it’s acceptable ? Last week, a customer of a hypermarket in Saint-Étienne believed that she had managed to leave the store where she had just done her shopping almost without paying: € 0.88 spent on more than 1,000 euros of goods. But she got spotted by security, reports Progress.
The facts occurred at the Géant store in the Monthieu district, in Saint-Étienne (Loire). The client was arrested at the beginning of the week by the security agents of the sign.
And for good reason: this 39-year-old woman, who was accompanied by a teenage girl, had just paid the sum of 88 euro cents at the cash register.
But his cart was overflowing with more than 1,000 euros in shopping. How did she do it? She simply used the “express scan” function offered by the brand.
The principle is simple: throughout your shopping, you scan your items yourself, using a small portable handshower, before paying the total at the checkout. Targeted or random checks are obviously planned to avoid fraud …
And there, it did not fail: especially since the customer was already known to the security of the store for previous thefts.
This time, she had scanned everything, then canceled all the products … except one. At 88 cents, then.
The store contacted the police, who arrested her and took her into custody. She will be tried for theft in assembly, and has been released pending trial.
It has also undertaken to pay for all of its purchases …
