Unusual Places for Blood Donation: Opera and Museum Hold Collections for World Blood Donor Day

Wednesday, June 14 is World Blood Donor Day. On this occasion, two collections are organized in unusual places: Friday, at the Opéra de Montpellier and Saturday, at the Musée de la Romanité, in Nîmes. Enough to remobilize the donor population before the summer period, which is always tense in this area.

In Montpellier and Nîmes, this World Blood Donor Day, organized each year by the WHO, will take the form of a week of activities, in order to relaunch the mobilization of the population around blood donation.

On the menu: collections in unusual places, such as the Comédie opera in Montpellier, next Saturday. Because like every year, it is necessary to replenish the blood stocks before the summer.

We will offer channels at the donation centers according to the different blood groups, but we need everyone, everyone has to come! Whatever your blood type, you come and you will be guided according to what you are able to do.

At the French Blood Establishment in Montpellier, officials insist on the need to mobilize all potential donors before departures for the summer holidays, because summer is always a period of tension for hospitals.

Currently, available blood stocks are considered too low: with only 10 to 11 days in advance to supply hospitals, while the “comfortable” threshold should be higher, with a head start of 15 days.

As part of this World Blood Donor Day, the French Blood Establishment has also scheduled an exceptional collection at the Musée de la Romanité on Friday June 16, from noon to 6 p.m.

Nearly 200 donors are expected at this collection, which can be done without an appointment, with, in addition, a visit to the archaeological treasures on site and a snack offered on the terrace.
