The governor of Kherson Province, Vladimir Saldo, said that the region’s authorities recorded the occurrence of unusual phenomena in the nature of the Azov region, after the Ukrainian army destroyed the Kakhovka hydroelectric station.
He added: “As far as I know, experts have not yet published evidence of changes in the local climate on the Azov coast, after the disappearance of the Kakhovka water reservoir. But in the Azov coastal region of the province, unusual phenomena of nature were observed there: fluctuations in the level of the Sea of Azov, changes in its salinity, the frequency of particularly strong winds, and an increase in the numbers of jellyfish.
The governor noted, “Scientists will have to answer the question, after careful study of all available data, are these phenomena related to the disaster that occurred at the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station, or not?”
Saldo noted that when assessing the damage resulting from the destruction of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station by Ukrainian forces, local authorities will work side by side with federal authorities.
On the night of June 6, 2023, Ukrainian forces launched a series of attacks on and destroyed the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station. Russian President Vladimir Putin described the destruction of the station as a barbaric act on the part of the Kiev regime, and noted that this led to a large-scale environmental and humanitarian catastrophe.
