– We have received indications that there has been a new peak in mosquitoes now in late summer, says department director Mari Steinert at the Department for Pest Control at the Institute of Public Health to Dagbladet.
– It is a bit unusual, but may be due to the extreme weather “Hans”, and the fact that it has been very humid, she continues.
It is the flood mosquito that is now blooming again. It is a species of mosquito that stings so that it itches, and of which there are normally very many in a short time.
– It is active during the day and can become troublesome, and is what we are waiting for now, according to Steinert.
Taking mosquito bites: – Never happened before
– Boring
It is in south-east Norway, and especially in flood-prone areas near the delta areas around the Tyrifjorden and Øyeren, that you experience a new peak of mosquitoes now in September, says the head of the department.
– It’s boring, because most people thought the season was over, but then a new wave comes instead. There are probably some who are taken to bed by the fact that there are so many mosquitoes now, says Steinert.
How many mosquitoes have hatched is uncertain. It is also difficult to answer how long the new mosquito peak will last, but it probably won’t be too long.
– It disappears when the heat subsides, says Steinert.

Also Oslo
She goes on to say that FHI has also received some reports of more mosquitoes in Oslo now.
– It is unlikely to be flood mosquitoes, but other species that get a new wave in late summer, says Steinert.
She adds that these latest hatchings show how climate change with extreme weather can have consequences such as more blood-sucking insects.
– It is something we want to see more of and which we at FHI want to follow up on, especially for those species that can transmit diseases.
