A student president of the University of Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa (Untirta) with the initials KZ is suspected of committing sexual harassment against a student. The Untirta Campus immediately took a stand by removing KZ from his position.
This sexual harassment information has gone viral on social media. BEM Untirta even disseminated information on the alleged sexual harassment to BEM Untirta’s social media account.
Meanwhile, Untirta Protocol Cooperation Public Relations Coordinator Veronika Dian Faradisa in her statement said that the rectorate had conducted searches including seeking information from witnesses, victim witnesses and alleged perpetrators. The Chancellor does not tolerate sexual harassment and will impose a drop out sanction if the student is found guilty during the legal process.
“And giving college leave during the legal process. The alleged perpetrator will be dishonorably removed from his position as Untirta Student President,” Veronika said in a statement submitted to detikcom, Serang, Saturday (9/10/2021).
He said the alleged harassment took place outside teaching and learning hours and outside the university environment. It is suspected that the incident took place in a boarding house and was outside the monitoring and responsibility of Untirta. According to him, activities outside the campus and not getting permission from the rectorate are not Untirta’s responsibility.
Due to the alleged sexual harassment, the university is currently providing assistance to the victim. This is both legally and psychologically so that he can return to his normal activities.
“The Chancellor will evaluate the work program activities of intra-campus organizations, as a responsibility to increase synergy, so that intra-campus organizational work programs can be more useful and monitored. We urge organizations to coordinate more with the Untirta student body and emphasize useful work programs,” he said.
On Friday (8/10) yesterday, according to him, he has resigned from the position of Student President. The university’s BEM, the student deliberative assembly and the student leadership council are also still discussing the alleged resignation.
“Until tonight, the student affairs sector has not received the report from the student council,” he explained.
