USR Representative Cristian Ghinea said Monday on Profit News TV’s Talk News program about the training approach to copy the PhD work of Interior Minister Lucian Bode at the National Library, which will publish fragments of the work. . Ghinea also said that after the completion of the process, they will verify the work through anti-plagiarism software and that it would be interesting for someone to take a look at the doctorates of the European Fund Minister, Marcel Boloş.
Cristian Ghinea said he saw the explanations of the director of the National Library regarding Lucian Bode’s doctorate.
“I think it’s an overly emotional and unwarranted reaction, because after all, Emilia Şercan wrote about this situation a few months ago, what we managed to do was that a lot of people saw that aberration works. I don’t see why a book that has aroused so much public interest and it was received earlier this year, it took 10 months to process. A man can write a book in ten months, what does it mean to process it in 10 months? Let’s be serious, this was all a plan to block public access to this thesis, to this wisdom of Mr. Bode, “said Ghinea.
According to Guinea, “his former colleague from Dilema has put himself in a bizarre situation”.
“He is the director of the National Library, he is not a porter, he is not a secretary there, he could make a conscious decision with which to prioritize this work, since the public interest is great, that is, in his decision, start with that . What law or regulation prevents this decision on prioritization? “, Said the representative of the USR.
“From his answer today I saw that it will take four weeks, again it seems strange to me, which is why, now, as we speak, my colleagues at the USR, the volunteers, are continuing the transcription of the thesis,” he said. Guinea.
He stated that this transcription process is going very difficult. “I transcribed three pages in an hour and a half, it is quite complicated because you have to look at the screen. It is absurd, it could not be done otherwise. It is not possible to take a picture on the screen. Today there were eight volunteers in shifts of several hours , each transcribing a piece (..) I think that until Mr. Cioroianu publishes the book we will publish fragments of the work, because it is a pity that the public does not have access to Mr. Bode’s wisdom before “, underlined Cristian Ghinea.
When asked how she got the job, Guinea replied: “Terribly boring. It’s like cutting your veins, intellectually speaking. It’s terribly badly written, a language that only repeats the same words in a circle, at least as far as I could read it. ‘index and the first chapter, but perhaps in the rest of the book it will become more interesting and have a happy ending. “
Cristian Ghinea said that the completion of USR’s approach is to use anti-plagiarism software to control the work.
“We will use the same plagiarism detection software. You should know that all universities in Romania have or are legally obliged to have anti-plagiarism software. (..) We will publish snippets, I don’t want to publish everything because I don’t even know if we will succeed. until Mr. Cioroianu releases it, but I think the pressure on the system is beneficial, we have had it for two days since we started the action. “
Ghinea wanted to show that Lucian Bode’s work will not be the only one verified. When asked if the USR intends to check other doctoral theses of the ministers, he replied: “Mr. Bode and Mr. Cîmpeanu are not the only ones, their successor to the European Funds has two doctorates for example. I think it would be interesting for someone to give look at Mr. Boloş’s doctorates. “
The former minister stated that “a doctoral thesis is a contribution of that man, of the doctor, to the universe of the knowledge of humanity (..), you are a doctor if you make an original contribution to the body of knowledge of humanity. “. “This doctorate means, it doesn’t mean that a fool gets a degree to raise his salary. Maybe that’s how it ended in Romania, but it’s an aberration. The idea that you can’t access Mr. Bode’s wisdom seemed abhorrent to me. , and that’s why I made the decision, let’s show that this is the only way, “he commented.
Regarding the summoning to Parliament of the director of the National Library, Adrian Cioroianu, Ghinea showed that the USR wants him to clarify if he can change the regulation of the institute and then “it is honorable that an intellectual like Mr. Cioroianu changes this regulation or the law it obliges it “.
“Other rumors say that the law does not say what is in the regulation. This is a welcome basis for dialogue, because it is a serious dilemma,” Ghinea added.
The Director of the National Library of Romania Adrian Cioroianu announces, in a post on Facebook, that in the next few days the volume containing the doctoral thesis of the Minister of the Interior Lucian Bode will be available, asking to speed up the procedure to take possession of the book.
At the same time, Cioroianu discusses with the journalist Emilia Şercan, who presented the current situation of Minister Bode’s thesis as well as the book in which it is published, argues that there are legal limitations to the consultation of the thesis, while the volume it includes is not available in libraries. .
On Friday, the journalist Emilia Şercan wrote that Lucian Bode’s doctoral thesis is at the National Library, but cannot be consulted on paper, but only in digital format, because since 2016 the consultation of the thesis on paper is prohibited. In addition, the work is digitized and can be viewed on a computer without Internet access.
According to Emilia Şercan, Lucian Bode published his doctoral thesis in a book in 2021, with the same title as the thesis: “Energy security and resource management at the beginning of the 21st century: Romania in the current European context”, however Although Bode stated that he sent this scientific work, published in book form, to the Central University Library (BCU) of the Babeş-Bolyai University and the National Library, it does not even exist on the shelves of the BCU in Cluj, nor at the National Library, the institution explaining that “the process of elaboration of the title and the copy destined for the current collections of the National Library of Romania has not been completed”.
After these explanations, the USR announced the start of a transcription marathon of the doctoral thesis of Minister Lucian Bode, so that it can be consulted by all Romanians and can be subjected to plagiarism checks.
Emilia Şercan has qualified the action of the USR as a “political action”, with which it has nothing to do and with which I do not want to be associated.
The USR’s approach was ironed on Sunday by historian Mădălin Hodor, who also argued with Şercan.
