Until July, the Ministry of Health records 71 thousand dengue cases

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Ministry of Health (Ministry of Health) recorded as many as 71,633 cases dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) until July 2020 in Indonesia, with the death rate reaching 459 cases.

A total of 10 provinces reported the highest number of cases, including West Java (10,772), Bali (8,930), East Java (5,948), East Nusa Tenggara (5,539), Lampung (5,135), DKI Jakarta (4,227), West Nusa Tenggara (3,796) ), Central Java (2,846), Yogyakarta (2,720), and Riau (2,255).

“This is a potentially endemic province, year after year [jumlahnya] high, “said Director of Prevention and Control of Vector and Zoonotic Diseases, Siti Nadia Tarmizi, in an official statement received CNNIndonesia.com, Sunday (7/12).

Despite an increase, the number of cases and death rates in 2020 is claimed to have decreased when compared to the same period in 2019. In the January-July 2019 period, the Ministry of Health recorded 112,954 dengue cases in Indonesia, with a mortality rate reaching 751.

Previously, Siti also had appealed to the public to be aware of dengue in the midst of a corona virus infection pandemic (Covid-19). According to him, Indonesia is threatened with double infection due to DHF and Covid-19.

“Of the 460 regencies / cities that reported dengue cases, 439 districts / cities also reported cases of Covid-19. So this has a double infection,” said Siti, some time ago.

For this reason, Siti called on the community to take the 3M plus movement as a preventive measure. The movement includes draining water reservoirs, closing or burying used goods that can become mosquito breeding grounds, and recycling used goods waste that has the potential to become mosquito breeding grounds.

While the ‘plus’ movement is to prevent mosquito bites such as using lotion and anti-mosquito drugs.

Not only that, Siti also urged people to become larva lighters (jumantik) in the family environment. Jumantik is responsible for monitoring mosquito larvae in the home environment.

“In principle, we socialize every person into a jumantik in their respective homes, and ensure that our homes do not have mosquito nests,” concluded Siti.
