According to the license plate number, some of the demonstrators have traveled a little further behind them: They came from Zwickau, Hamburg and Cologne to the parking lot at the Unterschleißheimer See. In addition to the usual “M”, numerous license plates from the region can be seen in the column on this Friday afternoon, from Freising to Miesbach to Starnberg. According to the police, around 90 people with a little more than 50 vehicles have come to protest against the Corona requirements. At 4 p.m. sharp they set off for a motorcade from Unter- to Oberschleißheim.
This form of protest has the advantage that the risk of infection is lower than with a large crowd. Because the district office has made the organizers a requirement that the occupants in the vehicle must wear masks if they do not come from a household. But nobody wears a mask when the car parade sets off – and the participants are also not concerned with a possible risk of infection with the corona virus.
“My children are most important to me,” says one participant. “Children need other children, to play, to laugh.” It is precisely this point that worries many of the demonstrators. “Open schools and daycare centers” is written on a poster that is stuck to the car door. “Face-to-face teaching” on another. “Peace, freedom, democracy,” demands another. But there are also other tones. “The people rebel,” wrote a driver on a poster. And in a group of the messenger service Telegram, in which many demo participants are gathered, a woman writes shortly before the start of the car parade: “My son has the Reich war flag in the rear window of his Golf! So that those above can see what’s going on!”
The police did not see the flag. She is there with a massive contingent, several patrol cars and crew vans accompany the motorcade through the northern district. Ten heavy machines of the motorcycle squadron lead him under flashing lights, the demonstrators have set the hazard lights. The protest against the corona restrictions remains peaceful until the end. Only away from the parking lot do some express their incomprehension. “Corona sworn,” says a walker in passing.
