Untangling Privacy and Civility: A War Veteran’s Rejection by Meghan Markle and Prince Harry

Frank McGinity, a veteran of the United States Navy, denounced that when trying to approach the house of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry to give them a gift, he was rejected by security guards.

A gift with local history

The unexpected rebuff came shortly after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle moved to Montecito in 2020. McGinity, 88, a close neighbor of the couple, wanted to give them a CD containing films about the area’s history, a touch he thought was fitting to welcome them.

In his memoir entitled Get Off Your Street, the veteran recounted how he approached the Dukes’ property. “Harry and Meghan live on the old McCormick property and I went to their door with the movies on a CD, but they weren’t interested,” McGinity shared, adding that the door attendant was the one who turned him away saying simply “they’re not interested.”

Montecito: The new refuge of the dukes

Montecito, an area known for being home to several celebrities, has become the new haven for the royal couple. Markle and Harry moved in in July 2020 with their son Archie, and although the community is used to the presence of public figures, the arrival of the dukes caused some surprise among the neighbors.

McGinity, in his account, even offered details of his closeness to the dukes, noting that he lives “a tiara or two” away from them. What caught the most attention, however, was his comment on the couple’s choice of neighborhood: “We don’t see them around here much. It’s surprising they came here. People are usually older. It’s where the elephants come to die.”

This incident highlights the search for privacy on the part of Meghan and Harry, who have decided to lead a quieter life and away from the spotlight after moving to the United States. Despite McGinity’s attempt to get closer, it’s clear the couple wants to keep their space and avoid unwanted interactions. However, the fact that a neighbor attempted a kind gesture and was turned away has left many pondering the limits of privacy and courtesy.

The keys

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry moved to Montecito, California in 2020. A neighboring war veteran tried to drop by the royal couple’s home to deliver a gift, but was turned away. Meghan and Harry’s quest for privacy has left many pondering the limits of privacy and civility.
