UNT students seek to reduce the use of plastic in the region – News from Trujillo, La Libertad, Peru

through the project Bioplasticsyoung people from the Federated Center of Agroindustrial Engineering Students (CFEIA) and Materials Engineering of the National University of Trujillo seek to raise awareness among citizens about the environmental impact caused by the indiscriminate use of plastic and at the same time propose as an alternative solution to This problem is the use of biodegradable packaging.

The project was executed last Friday and consisted of the development of informative talks in the auditorium of the Professional School of Materials Engineering of our university, with the participation of more than 50 attendees, including students and graduates of the UNT, as well as the UPAO and the UCV.

The topics that were addressed were the “Effect of plastic pollution” and “Manufacture of biodegradable containers using agro-industrial waste”, which were in charge of Eng. Livia Cayotopa Tapia, a Segat worker and Dr. Raúl Siche Jara, UNT teacher, respectively.

In the same way, the enthusiastic participants were taught the processes of making a plastic bar and making biodegradable trays so that they can appreciate the difference between both components. These activities were carried out in the Polymeric Materials and Agroindustrial Process Engineering laboratories of the UNT.

The student and president of the CFEIA – UNT, Edwin Zelada Vásquez indicated that this initiative seeks to contribute to the solution of the problems faced by society, the region and the country, such as the issue of environmental contamination produced by different plastic objects. that pollute the oceans.

“The project was executed successfully and we plan to continue with these initiatives for the benefit of the community; For this, we are coordinating with other federated student centers of the UNT and other institutions that wish to join to work in an articulated manner and massify these proposals ”, he concluded.
