The Baltimore Ravens remain the kings of the NFL preseason. Head coach John Harbaugh’s team celebrated a narrow 20:19 home win against the Philadelphia Eagles. It was the 24th win in a row in the preseason.
The team from the M&T Bank Stadium is thus expanding its record series, which has now lasted since 2016. In the previous year, it had three defeats in four friendlies. After that, however, the team seemed to have forgotten how to lose in the preseason. Previously, the Green Bay Packers held the record with 19 straight wins in 1959–62.
Devin Duvernay and Tylan Wallace scored a touchdown and Justin Tucker kicked the Eagles for the 24th win. Incidentally, Tucker is one of only two players on the Ravens team to have featured in all 24 wins. The other player is Ronnie Stanley.
Therefore, this winning streak also has a special meaning for Tucker. “I said that last year and the year before that and probably the year before that too, but of course it means something to us,” said the kicker before the game when asked about the series. “It’s a reflection of our organisation, our coaching staff and our young players doing their best at this time of year to put on a good performance on the pitch, an achievement we can all be proud of. It really speaks to the way our coaches develop us and make sure our young people are interested in what we’re doing here.”
The Los Angeles Chargers can only dream of such a series at the moment. However, the team convinced against the Los Angeles Rams and defeated the local rivals with 34:17.
Elijah Dotson in particular made a strong impression. The running back carried the ball twice into the opposing end zone. The rookie went 37 yards on the first touchdown. On his second run into the end zone, he topped that with 40 yards. In all, the 24-year-old got the ball six times, running for 92 yards.
Dotson, who came to the Chargers as an undrafted rookie rather than through the draft, did a great job of promoting himself for a place in the final roster.
