Unscrupulous Debt Collectors in Jakarta Stripping Confiscated Motorbike Components

Jakarta

Astra Financial confirmed that there were unscrupulous debt collectors who stripped down confiscated motorcycle components before handing them over to leasing. Although rare, this phenomenon is true.

It is known, when credit payments are bad and there is no communication with the leasing party, the consumer’s motorbike will be confiscated by the debt collector. Generally, the confiscated vehicles are offered back to other people through an auction scheme.

Astra Financial’s Group Function Committee Leader Communication & ESG, Yulian Warman, said that during the vehicle withdrawal process, there were a few debt collectors who were cheating. They first stripped down the motor components that were considered valuable, then stored and sold to other people.

“That’s right, sometimes there are naughty debt collectors remove them (components) confiscated motorbikes,” said Yulian Warman when met in South Jakarta, recently.

Not only that, Yulian also confirmed, in a few cases, there are debt collectors who play fraudulently with their own customers.

“The facts on the ground are like that (there is collusion between motorbike owners and debt collectors),” he said.

On the same occasion, Yulian explained, confiscated leasing motorbikes were not simply left in the warehouse, but were offered back to other people as used products.

“There are various kinds, some are immediately auctioned off, some are sold again. You have to check how complete it is (the condition of the vehicle),” he explained.

Interestingly, said Yulian, there were also consumers who had difficulty paying their monthly credit, then asked the leasing company to temporarily confiscate their motorbikes. Now, when the consumer has funds, he can ‘redeem’ his vehicle. However, it should be noted, there must be an agreement at the beginning.

“There are also customers who actually can afford it, but because it’s too bad they can’t pay, the motorbike is confiscated first. After they have the money, they are redeemed. But with an agreement or communication at the start,” he said.
