Unri Student Group Bus overturns in Silaiang W Sumatra, 33 injured

PADANG, KOMPAS. com-Tour bus carrying a group of 46 Riau State University (Unri) students crashed in Silaiang ascentPadang Panjang, West Sumatra, Monday (12/19/2022).

The bus struck four other vehicles before crashing into a hill and then overturning.

As many as 33 of the 46 UNRI student passengers were injured and were rushed to hospital.

“The incident happened around 08.20 WIB. The bus coming from Pekanbaru to Padang reportedly suffered a brake failure,” said Padang Panjang Police Headquarters Chief Iptu Aldy Lazzuardy, who was contacted kompas.comMonday.

A total of four other vehicles were each Datsun Go BA 1467 GF, Toyota Calya BA 1157 N, Hyundai Starex BA 1578 N and tanker CPO B 8033 GU.

“After that the bus hit the hill and then flipped over,” Aldy said.

As a result, the flow of vehicles was blocked from the direction of Padang and Padang Panjang.

“There was a traffic jam, but officers were already on the ground handling it,” Aldy said.

As for the victims who sustained injuries, Aldy said, 25 people were rushed to Yarsi Padang Panjang Hospital, 7 people to Padang Panjang Hospital and one person to Kayu Tanam Health Center.
