Unrest in migrant detention center in Poland

Belarus’s authoritarian leader Alexander Lukashenko arrived in a migrant settlement on the border on Friday, but unrest has erupted in a migrant detention center in Poland.

Migrants began to demolish the premises

While the situation remains tense on Poland’s eastern border, riots broke out on Thursday in a migrant detention center in western Poland in the village of Wenzin, a few tens of kilometers from Germany. On Thursday evening, part of the detainees in the detention center began to demolish the buildings and rooms where they lived, and windows were broken down.

Authorities say there are about 600 people living here, more than half of whom are Iraqi citizens, and they have occasionally complained that their mobility is restricted. About 100 people have been involved in the riots, but the situation has come under control following the arrival of border guards and police.

“They would like to leave this place and go to Germany, because that is their destination, the only destination for their trip from Belarus to Poland.

The aggression escalated on Thursday. These people began to demolish the building, breaking windows. We started talks, the police and the border guard were also called. Later, the migrants stopped the aggression and the situation was brought under control, ”says Anna Mikhailska, a spokeswoman for the Polish border guard.

Lukashenko wants to send migrants to Germany

Belarusian authoritarian leader Alexander Lukashenko, meanwhile, arrived in a migrant settlement near the border town of Bruges on Friday.

According to Minsk, there are about 2,000 people on the Polish border. Lukashenko said they should be allowed to go to Germany.

“It’s not a big burden, they want to live in Germany. “Two thousand people is not a big problem for Germany,” says the Belarusian dictator.

Angela Merkel agreed, Lukashenko repeatedly said after recent telephone conversations with the German chancellor. Berlin has categorically rejected these allegations. Polish Prime Minister Matthew Moravecki had arrived in Berlin on Thursday to meet with Merkel.

“I express my full solidarity with the Prime Minister of Poland. We are convinced that the situation was caused by the fact that Belarus has attracted migrants as a tool of hybrid attack and with it now wants to destabilize, not only to weaken Poland, but also to weaken the entire European Union, “Merkel admitted.

The Polish prime minister arrived in London on Friday to discuss the migration crisis with his British counterpart Boris Johnson.

CONTEXT:

In the summer of 2021 the number of migrants increased significantly, which is trying to enter the territory of Latvia, Lithuania and Poland illegally from Belarus. Most migrants are arrived from Iraq.

Officials from the Baltic states and Poland pointed out that the Belarusian authorities deliberately do not obstruct the crossing of the borderto punish these countries for supporting the Belarusian opposition and sanctions against Alexander Lukashenko’s regime.

The European Union will do so described as the deployment of hybrid warfare and promises to help strengthen the EU’s external border.

On November 8, a large group of migrants gathered at the Belarusian border with Poland, trying to enter the territory of the European Union, but Poland refuses to allow these people because they believe that they are not refugees, but “tourists” who have come to Belarus voluntarily.
