“Extensive violence occurred in downtown Portland. For the sake of public safety, Governor Kate Brown, under the advice of United Command, has activated the deployment of the Oregon National Guard to assist local law enforcement in responding to any acts of violence, and to maintain public order and ensure public safety. , “said a statement from the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office.

“National Guard personnel are trained in crowd control and will coordinate with local response teams,” the statement added.

The state of Oregon is known to be the site of regular protests over the past few months. In their most recent post-election campaign, demonstrators in Portland protested against a variety of issues, including police brutality and the vote-counting process for the presidential election.

In a recent statement via Twitter, the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office announced that 11 people were arrested over the violence in Portland.
