Unresolved infection situation in Sogn – NRK Vestland

– The situation is confusing with expected more infections in the age group 20-35 years.

Hydro happen

– We have several employees who have been confirmed infected, says factory manager Wenche Eldegard at Hydro Årdal.

She does not want to go into how many people are in question, but tell that there are also more employees in quarantine waiting for test results.

Production is proceeding as normal at Hydro in Årdal, but they are preparing for what the factory manager describes as the “worst case”.

– It may be relevant to cancel a holiday, but we are not there yet, says the factory manager.

Several measures have already been taken, for example the canteen and gym are closed.

Uneasy about the consequences

Mayor Hilmar Høl is concerned about the consequences the infection may have for the industry in the village.

– Especially for the industry that is our blood vessel, this is incredibly sad. I still think they can handle it, he says.

Årdal municipality has urged the organizers of the music festival Målrock and Lerum cup in shooting to cancel their event which should be this week.

– To receive this message two days before the festival, it’s hard. This is one of the heaviest days we have had, says festival director for Målrock, Geir Kjetil Øvstetun.

Mayor Hilmar Høl is sorry on behalf of the festival participants and organizers.

“Unfortunately, we can not risk worsening the situation,” says Høl.

Høl said earlier today that the infection will not come from the outbreak at a nightclub in Sogndal, but probably comes from Bergen or Oslo.

Unknown route of infection in Sogndal

In the neighboring municipality of Sogndal, four new cases of infection were registered on Tuesday.

One of the infected was not vaccinated and has been at work at the hospital in Sogndal.

At Sogndal health and care center, restrictions have again been introduced for visitors.

Eight patients and seven employees are counted as close contacts by this person. These test negative. Patients are followed up with a new test.

A total of 40 close contacts are in quarantine.

Two of the new cases have an unknown route of transmission. These are close contacts. The other two cases from Tuesday belong to the outbreak at the nightclub in Sogndal.

– There is an element of uncertainty here, but we mean to be in control. There are not many close contacts to these with unknown routes of infection, says infection control doctor in Sogndal, Jan Ove Tryti.

Municipal manager in Sogndal, Tor-Einar Holvik Skinlo, is aware of the situation in Årdal and knows that many people move across the region.

– We have a close and good collaboration with the neighboring municipalities on the management of the infection situation, he says.
