Unreal Engine 5 is the new game engine from the company Epic GamesIt allows developers and creators around the world to create 3D content or experiences in real time, while giving a huge number of tools and freedom in creativity, and better technical support and accompaniment than ever before, and currently it has reached version No. 5.3.2, which was recently launched in the form of Updates.
Many video game development companies have officially moved from the fourth version of the Unreal Engine to the fifth version, and we have witnessed a significant number of titles that were developed on the latest versions of the engine, which are games that were released during recent months, such as Immortals of Aveum, Layers of Fear, and Fort Solis, Quantum Error, The Day Before, The Lords of the Fallen, and many more titles.
During my search for games developed using Unreal Engine 5, I had a negative feeling about those titles that were released, as I remembered that many of these games did not achieve significant success, with the exception of a few titles developed by well-known companies. This feeling led me to ask a question about why many of these games did not achieve the great success expected of them. Are there specific factors that negatively affect the performance of games that rely on this engine, or does the problem lie in the engine itself?
When looking at the visuals created using the engine, at first glance they are absolutely stunning, giving us the impression that the level of graphics in games has reached a revolutionary stage. A stage that shows a large and advanced degree of realism. This constitutes positive aspects, but at the same time it reveals multiple challenges. For example, the scenario is repeated when we find games that have amazing graphics, but they suffer from technical problems in terms of performance and other problems in the gameplay, in addition to other problems that may be related to the quality of the graphics.
From these observations, it seems that the stunning graphics seen in game demos using Unreal Engine 5 raise several questions, including the wide discrepancy in graphics quality and gameplay experience. Does this balance reflect the technical difficulties that development teams face while trying to achieve a balance between visual realism and the quality of the gaming experience?
Or may there be technical challenges that stand in the way of achieving the perfect integration between the visual aspects and gameplay and addressing errors and shortcomings in these games in order to provide integrated and enjoyable gaming experiences?
Before we end our discussion for this week, we would like to mention that there are some upcoming games coming this year that will use the new engine or have recently moved to it, such as Black Myth: Wukong, Silent Hill 2, Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II, and many more games. We don’t have to worry about it, or we continue to be optimistic about the possibility of seeing the maximum that this engine can do, and the developers are unleashing all of its potential.
Your opinions on this topic are very important to us. We are happy for you to share them with us through the comments section below!
More about Unreal Engine 5 features
Engine techniques
Nanite technology
Nanite is a 3D graphics technology that allows extremely high-resolution objects to be rendered in real-time, without the need to use traditional LOD techniques.
Nanite’s new digital building technology provides highly detailed architecture. Specifically, buildings are rendered from millions of polygons in real time, and every brick, stone, shingle, and trim in the walls is modeled.
Also, the landscapes feature high-resolution details as well. One tree contains about 300,000 polygons, and each stone and grass flower are designed separately.
New Lumen technology
Lumen reflections provide high quality rays reflected on shiny surfaces and water. This technology provides real-time global illumination while maintaining a display rate of 60 frames per second.
You will see beautiful interior spaces with lighting reflected on the surfaces, in addition to characters interacting with the surrounding lighting. For example, red carpets may reflect red light on your personality. Also, clothing that has emissive qualities, such as glowing clothing, will reflect light onto nearby objects and surfaces.
