A galaxy is a part of the universe that begins its life with its stars. However, it is known that some of the stars in this galaxy rotate in a regular pattern and some randomly. I wonder why?

Galaxies become disordered as they age. This is known through the motion of the stars in the galaxy. Researchers revealed that the movement, whether it was regular or random, was not clearly known.

However, there are several possibilities that cause the stars to move randomly.

Stars move not because of their environment and mass

It is still not clear why the stars move randomly and scientists have concluded that it may be because of the surrounding environment or the mass itself.

The author of this study, Professor Scott Croom, Astro 3D researcher at the University of Sydney, Australia, said that stars move randomly, there is no connection between the environment or the mass itself.

Nevertheless, his findings consistently show that age is always a parameter that determines whether stars move regularly or randomly.

“If you take age into account, there are basically no environmental trends, and the same thing happens for the older people,” said Scott Croom, reported from EurekAlert.

“When you find a young galaxy, it will rotate, regardless of its environment, and if you find an old galaxy, its orbit will be random, whether it is in the environment or in empty space,” he said.

However, another researcher, Dr. Jesse van de Sande, revealed that the possible causes, namely the environment and the masses, are not always wrong.

“We know that the environment affects aging,” he said.

According to him, if a galaxy is in a dense environment, star formation stops, and dense galaxies are galaxies with an older average age.

“The essence of our analysis is that it does not live in a dense environment that reduces the circulation, but that they are older,” said Dr. van de Sande.

The Milky Way galaxy is known to have a thin star-shaped disk and galaxies with a high spin distribution. This can be seen from observations made using the SAMI Galaxy Survey instrument.

The instrument was created by the University of Sydney and the Anglo-Australian Observatory, and has studied 3000 galaxies in different environments.

This instrument can simplify the process of understanding galaxy formation and develop models of the universe, which is of course very useful for astronomers.
