Unraveling the Director’s Secret: Eldar Ryazanov’s Episodic Roles in His Own Films

Only the most attentive fans were able to unravel the director’s secret.

Eldar Ryazanov never hid the fact that he prefers to feature only his favorite artists in his films. In many of his works you can see Liya Akhedzhakova, Andrei Myagkov or, for example, Lyudmila Gurchenko. At the same time, not everyone knows who the famous director shot most often.

As it turned out, Ryazanov himself liked to write episodic roles for himself. The artist appeared in very comical cameos in his own works. Thus, attentive fans saw him in the comedy “Give me a book of complaints,” where he became the editor of a newspaper. And in “Old Robbers” he turned out to be a random passer-by who talks to Yuri Nikulin through the window.

In total, the director appeared 18 times in his own works. Such a record made him the most filmed artist, because Ryazanov did not work with anyone so often. And the most popular actors in his films, Valentina Talyzina, Liya Akhedzhakova and Georgy Burkov, worked with him in only seven films each.
