Unram Thematic Community Service Program Utilizing Narrow Land for Low Budget Green House

PRAYA-Land that can be used for plant maintenance is running low. This is in line with the increase in building construction.

The issue of global warming also makes it more difficult for plant growth. So we need a solution in the form of land use as efficiently as possible to serve as a place for plant maintenance, such as a green house.

Green house literally means a building that is intended to maintain plants with environmental conditions and temperatures that have been adjusted. In general, green houses have glass components that can absorb sunlight to help plant growth.

“In certain cases this is the case, but we modify it by using paranet instead of glass,” said Arlina Chandra, a member of the Sasake KKN in Central Lombok, Monday (12/7).

Besides being more affordable, the effect of a green house using paranet is lighter than glass. ”So, more environmentally friendly,” he said.

The green house built by the Sasake group measures 2.5 mx 6.2 meters using easily available materials. Like paranet and bamboo to support it. Soil that has been mixed with various other compositions, such as rice dregs and cow dung, is used as a planting medium. Meanwhile, used plastic cups are used as containers.

The use of used plastic cups as plant containers will help reduce household waste in Sasake Village. The waste tends to end up in the landfill without a recycling process.

“Our group chose several types of vegetables to grow. Such as chili, pakcoy, spinach, tomatoes and celery,” added Fina Yulia, another member.

“These vegetables are known for their good health benefits, so they are highly recommended for consumption,” he continued.

All the green house construction processes were initiated by the Sasake KKN group. It is also supported by local residents who work together in a compact manner to green Sasake Village.

The green house that was built on the side of the road attracted the enthusiasm of the residents to take a closer look. Some of them even give suggestions to increase the types of plants in it.

“We hope that this green house can be preserved by local residents. It would be nice if the vegetables grown can be sold and increase the income of the residents,” said the Head of the Sasake KKN Group, Banyu Rizkia.

“Utilizing narrow land, household waste accompanied by reforestation will be the right step to realize Zero Waste in the future,” he added. (yun/r8)
