The ballot boxes have painted the Cordovan territory blue this Sunday. In an unprecedented turn, the People’s Party It has become the main political reference in the province after decades of PSOE hegemony. Driven by the euphoria transmitted by the president of the Junta de Andalucía, Juanma Moreno, a leader who right now seems to have no ceiling and who in recent days has not stopped supporting mayors of the towns of Córdoba, the popular ones won not only in Córdoba capital, but they are consolidating fiefdoms such as Cabra, Priego de Córdoba and Pozoblanco and, what is more important, they claim victory in municipalities where until recently it seemed impossible, such as the cases of Lucena, Puente Genil and Palma del Río, this the latter with an overwhelming majority.
The x-ray that the ballot boxes leave in the province is the following. At stake there was 909 minutes. Adolfo Molina’s PP became the first political force, with victory in 32 localities, a total of 162,627 votes (40.58% of the total) and the achievement of 355 council seats. Rafi Crespín’s PSOE, therefore, falls to second force. It achieves a total of 119,336 ballots (29.78% of the total), wins in 31 locations and achieves, in general calculation, 347 councilors, according to official data from the Ministry of the Interior with 100% scrutiny.
The PP lived a exultant night and, as the scrutiny progressed, the victories fell on his side, one by one. The most awaited was the one achieved in Lucena, the most populous municipality in Córdoba after the capital. After a quarter of a century in the hands of the PSOE, the popular Aurelio Fernández achieves ten councilors (he had six), surpassing the PSOE of Juan Pérez, who remains at six councilors. Ciudadanos maintains its two seats in the municipal plenary session, like Vox. Fernández will be, therefore, the new mayor of Lucena, as he himself had been warning: “The city is impatiently experiencing political change.”
In Genil Bridge, Sergio Velasco’s popular also scored a victory, although in this case the nine councilors achieved seem insufficient compared to the block on the left, which has 11 (the seven from Esteban Morales’s PSOE and the four achieved by IU). The only record achieved by Vox will not be decisive. Now, foreseeably, a negotiation process will be opened in the left bloc full of unknowns until practically June 17, the day of the constitution of the new city councils.
Meanwhile in Priego de Cordoba, Goat y whitewell the PP wins again without surprises, one of the headlines of the day came from Palma del Río, where the popular Matilde Esteo, in her first elections as number one on the iron, defeated the PSOE for the first time in an unprecedented victory, with an unexpected absolute majority (12 councilors against six).
The PP also wins in route, where the president of the Provincial Council, Antonio Ruiz, will lose the Mayor’s Office, a very symbolic defeat for the Socialists. Castro del Río, La Rambla, Bujalance, Hinojosa del Duque, El Carpio or Luque also lean in the balance towards the popular side, which remains in Cañete de las Torres, Añora or Villanueva del Duque.
The icing on the cake for the PP awaited in Saint Sebastian of the Ballesteroswhere Francisco Javier Maestre becomes the mayor with the most votes in the province, with 84.74% of the votes and all the councilors in the Plenary, a total of seven.
A PSOE in crisis
In what situation is, therefore, the PSOE of Rafi Crespín?
