New York State National Guard authorities are implementing unprecedented security measures in the Big Apple, ordering troops to carefully examine immigrants in search of distinctive tattoos that could link them to the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua, whose members are already spreading across the United States.
This action comes amid growing Concerns about the presence and activity of this gang in New York City, as reported The New York Post.
The recent decree came after the police issued a Situational Awareness Alert, warning of the increasing presence of the bloodthirsty gang in the five boroughs.
The members of the Aragua Train They are seeking asylum at the United States border and are moving to New York to join other criminals, revealed sources consulted by The Post.
Concern over gang activity has led even the National Guard to feel the need to implement policies related to the use of force, as if they were in a combat zone, a source said Wednesday.
The criminal group has been linked to a recent wave of robberies in the Big Apple, according to investigations by the New York newspaper. The police put him on their radar and warned of the risk of increased violence gang related. That includes stabbings, assaults and robberies.
What tattoos would reveal members of the Tren de Aragua?
The New York Police Department recommended its officers be aware of the tattoos, symbols and iconography used by the Aragua Train to identify any possible member.
Among the common tattoos of gang members of Venezuelan origin are Michael Jordan’s Nike logo with the number 23. In addition to crowns, weapons such as AK-47 rifles, stars and gas masks, as well as the initials “HJ” or the phrase “To death”.
Those warnings have been transmitted to about 2,000 members of the National Guard across the state, assigned to patrol duties at hotels and shelters that house thousands of asylum seekers, including a large contingent of undocumented aliens, according to The New York Post.
Aragua Train, easily adaptable
The Tren de Aragua engages in a wide range of criminal activities including extortion, kidnapping, human trafficking, drug trafficking and smuggling, focusing its expansion on the exploitation of Venezuelan migrants and the control of local criminal economies.
Although it has established alliances with other criminal and prison groups in Venezuela, the criminal organization has also faced conflicts with rival gangs and security forces.
Its expansion has generated significant challenges for regional security in South America, motivating the authorities of several countries to carry out joint operations to dismantle their cells and increase security cooperation.
Despite the loss of its base in the Tocorón prison, the group remains a concern due to its ability to adapt. However, changes in migration patterns and law enforcement actions could influence their ability to maintain and expand their criminal network in the future.
