As a result of their work on diamonds, scientists found a mineral that has never been seen before. In studies led by prominent Chinese geophysicist Ho-kwang (Dave) Mao, a diamond was mined 660 kilometers underground. This diamond was immediately scrutinized and the exciting truth emerged.
The mineral on the diamond was recorded as the first example of high pressure calcium silicate perovskite (CaSiO3). This discovery in diamond, which has a crystalline structure formed only under high pressure and high temperatures in the Earth’s mantle, has gone down in history.
Scientists conducted a study to find a similar mineral in the same place, but no similar mineral was found. The mineral was named “Davemaoite”, also in reference to the professor’s name, because it pioneered the work.
The new mineral has also been submitted to the International Mineralogical Association. The International Mineralogical Association, which examined the mineral in a series of meetings, informed that the diamond and the mineral were registered and approved.
