Unprecedented Feat: American Hockey Defenseman Mitchell Miller Shines with Five-Assist Game

MICHAEL OF LIPTO. American hockey defenseman Mitchell Miller achieved an unprecedented feat in Friday’s extraleague match between Liptovský Mikuláš and Nitro. He assisted on all five of his team’s goals in a 5-3 win.

“The five assists were won for me by my teammates. I wish it was every game,” 21-year-old Miller said after the match.

Four of the five goal assists came on power plays, which the American conducted from the blue.

Alexander Avcin, who scored a hat-trick, and Martin Réway, who scored three assists, had a big share in the successful numerical superiority.

Réway showed his hockey genius again and the first two goals were mainly his merit. In both cases, he passed the puck across the center of the rink and found a free Avcin, who appears to be an excellent finisher.

“The boys made it easy for me. I found them and they found the back of the net,” Miller described the team’s performance.

His goal is to help the team, improve his teammates and advance to the playoffs. This year is his first among men.

“It’s my first time playing with men, so it’s the first time I have five points in this category. I did it before in juniors.”

The head coach of Hk 32 Liptovský Mikuláš Juraj Faith also praised the clever young man.

“He is a hockey player with a difference, we don’t even have to talk about it. If what happened to him at the age of fourteen had not happened, he would be playing in the NHL today and I think for huge money,” said the coach.

The promising youngster ruined his career by bullying a mentally retarded African-American classmate, Isaiah Meyer-Crothers, at the age of fourteen.

Perhaps the most serious moment was when Miller and his classmate wet the candy and rolled it in the urinal. They then forced Meyer-Crothers to lick the candy. It got to the point where they had to test Isaiah for STDs.

For these reasons, there was currently no interest in him in the NHL, so he came to Liptov.

“We are happy that we managed to get him here and that he will help us this season,” added Faith.

According to his own words, the defender himself is grateful for coming to Liptovský Mikuláš:

“Great city, great team. So far so good,” he said.

After three extra league rounds, Miller has six points and is second in league productivity. Only forward Marc-Olivier Roy from Nové Zámki is ahead of him.

If the attacking defender Hk 32 can maintain this form, it is possible that his name will attract more attention from more prestigious competitions.

But coach Faith clearly said how they will react to any interest: “We will not let go.”
