Sweden has called Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan’s request for the extradition of 73 members of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) an “unpleasant surprise”. This is what the Swedish journalist from SVT Henrik Silver claims, reports RIA Novosti.
“President Erdogan’s statement really came as an unpleasant surprise to Sweden, Finland and 29 NATO member states,” Silver said.
According to him, Erdogan surprised the entire prescorpus with the request for the extradition of the Kurds. Thus he demonstrated that “the baton is still in his hands” and only the head of Turkey decides when Sweden and Finland will join NATO.
A Swedish journalist predicts that Erdogan “will not reduce the pressure on Sweden and Finland” because Turkey is holding presidential elections next year and needs to score political points, writes Fakti.bg..
