Unofficial: Poland and Hungary accept Germany’s budget proposal

The Reuters Agency, citing the words of a high-ranking Polish official, informs that Poland and Hungary have initially accepted the German budget proposal.

“We agree tentatively, but there is some pressure … the goal is to get this done before the EU summit (on Thursday),” a Reuters interlocutor said, reserving anonymity.

On Thursday, EU leaders at the CoE summit in Brussels will try to find a compromise on the multi-annual budget for 2021-2027, which must be adopted in a package with a reconstruction fund worth 1.8 trillion euros and a mechanism for linking EU funds to the rule of law. Poland and Hungary oppose the regulation on the conditionality mechanism.

– Budget negotiations are ongoing. Poland and Hungary developed a common negotiating framework. At the moment, there is no agreement within the EU yet. If the points are accepted, there is a chance for an agreement at this European Council summit – government spokesman Piotr Müller told PAP on Wednesday.

More information coming soon.
