ALBUQUERQUE, NM – I hope the women’s tennis team remembers to turn right into the McKinnon Family Tennis Stadium parking lot this year for some games. They can be excused for forgetting where it is. A year after playing just three home matches, Vicky Maes’ side will play 11 home games out of a 24-match regular season in 2024.
Additionally, the Lobos announced their fall competition schedule, which will see UNM compete in four tournaments beginning with the Bedford Cup in Colorado Springs from September 14-17.
The home schedule was bolstered by the long-awaited return to a traditional conference schedule in which each team plays five games at home and five on the road. In recent years, the Mountain West has moved to a travel pod system, meaning most teams have only played two games at home and eight on the road or neutral. This year, New Mexico will host UNLV (March 15), Colorado State (March 17), Nevada (April 5), San Diego State (April 7) and Wyoming (April 14) .
His five road opponents are San Jose State (March 22), Fresno State (March 24), Boise State (March 28), Utah State (March 30), and Air Strength (April 19).
UNM opens the non-conference season with a pair of home games on the same day, hosting Western New Mexico and Colorado College on Feb. 3. The Lobos will also host Northern Arizona (February 16), Abilene Christian (February 18), UTEP (February 25) and New Mexico State (March 10).
UNM’s non-conference games on the road will see the team travel to the Pacific Northwest for three games in Spokane, facing Seattle (February 9), Gonzaga (February 10) and Eastern Washington ( February 11th). The team will play a doubleheader with UC Riverside and UC Irvine on Feb. 23 and head to Big Sky Country to face Montana (March 7) and Montana State (March 8).
The Mountain West tournament will take place in Las Vegas from April 24-27.
Alongside the Bedford Cup season opener, UNM will travel in the fall for the NAU Invitational (September 22-24), ITA Regionals (October 18-22) and UTEP Invitational (3- November 5).
