David Guion, coach of the Girondins de Bordeaux, therefore has little to reproach his players: “We lacked some success but frankly I have nothing to say about the intentions, the state of mind… The lads did everything to get the win. I complimented the players on the burst of energy and the quality of their game”. He still has to wonder how his team didn’t win with such dominance. Without forgetting in the midst of all this a penalty not called for an obvious foul by a Pau defender on Ignatenko in the first act.
Piringuel as a symbol
But at least, for the first of the season, the Girondists were therefore able to come back after conceding the advantage. A lesser evil. It was the 18-year-old Lenny Pirringuel who ended up beating Pau FC from another Vital Nsimba cross. “It’s a lot of pride and joy, recognizes the midfielder with the banana. I’ve been waiting for this moment for a long time, especially in front of the family. I’m very happy. When I scored I felt nothing, I was in my bubble. I wanted to celebrate a little more because I forgot we weren’t winning (smiles).” In any case, it is a very beautiful symbol that this equalizer in the last league game before the break comes from a young man from the sports centre, they who have brought the club so much in this first third of the season.
This draw is still a bad deal in the climb race. If the Girondins close this start of the season in second place, they are now four points behind Le Havre, their next opponent on 26 December. It is therefore a real shock what awaits them for the recovery in Normandy. But for Gérard Lopez his team must focus above all on her: “I am convinced that we depend on ourselves and not on others. I find that we are one of the few teams in this league in the game that manage to put almost all of the opponents in difficulty when you start playing. Today’s second half proves it. “After that you need a little luck and everything else. Sure, there’s no certainty but if we play the 90 minutes every time at our level there won’t be any nasty surprises.”
