Scheduled by the city’s culture and heritage department, the Histoires d’or conference by scientist Alain Cheilletz promises to be very enriching in terms of ideas.
Indeed, the specialist, geologist, university professor at the National School of Geology in Nancy, has been studying and being passionate about celestial and solar matter for several decades.
“During my presentation intended for the general public, I will place gold at the heart of all human activities, providing a complete picture of the industrial development of societies because the precious ore remains the symbolic marker of global wealth.“, explains the man who taught petrology and metallogeny, while participating in several international collaborations.
More than ever, against a backdrop of war in Ukraine and galloping inflation, gold is turning heads while remaining a safe haven for savers.
There is no gold in the Gulf of St-Tropez
According to some scientists, gold was formed following an explosion of stars around 3.8 billion years ago. Through the action of plate tectonics, rocks trapping veins of gold can be found in mountain ranges. Erosion will then gradually release small particles which will join the watercourses. This makes rivers the most suitable places in France to look for gold.
“We must target certain areas of the Massif Central and the Pyrenees, but as far as you are concerned there is no gold in the Gulf of Saint-Tropez, even if the seaside is a paradise of beauty for geologists !” concludes the scientist who will also focus on the French territory of Guyana which has the largest gold reserve in the world.
