On Thursday (29/2/2024), the Space Telescope Science Institute revealed that they would use JWST with a total cumulative time of 5,500 hours in the period July 2024 to June 2025. The program carried out in this period is known as JWST Cycle 3 operations.
Cycle 3 will continue the scientific progress of the last two years that JWST has successfully made. In Cycle 3, JWST is targeted to capture images exomoon or months in exoplanet, exoplanetsupermassive black holes, and galaxies located far from Earth.
Apart from that, in Cycle 3 JWST will be used to study large-scale structures in the universe. This aims to get a more detailed picture of the expansion of the universe and dark energy or dark energy.
