The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom allows players to take on the role of Princess Zelda. Admittedly, that didn’t stop eager souls from digging up a way to replace the heroine with the main character of the game series – Link.

In the opening sequence of the adventure, you play as Link before Zelda finally takes over. However, with a little trick and a lot of patience, you can trick the game into reverting the change again.

As the YouTube channel “alyo” shows below, the trick requires sneaking outside the game area and opening the table just as you are sent back in the course. If you then die while the menu is still open on the screen, you can load a save file from the opening sequence – and voila, you play as Link.

The Hyrule hero can swing a sword, throw bombs and use a bow and arrow. Without Zelda, the game will encounter several problems. You don’t have access to items found in chests and you can’t change clothes.

Most importantly, you cannot access areas where a copy of objects is required. Divides in the world can’t be bridged either, so the game can’t be completed – yet.

Now the only question is who will come first. Either fans will find a way to get through the entire game as Link, or Nintendo will slow down the beast.

The Link trick is just one of several so-called “glitches” players have found in Echoes of Wisdom. Another makes that possible jump almost straight to the final boss enemythus completing the entire game in about an hour.
