Jakarta, CNNIndonesia —
Bagas Maulana/Muhammad Shohibul Fikri explained the key points in the win against the Malaysian men’s doubles pair in the second round All England 2023.
Bagas/Fikri made sure to step into the All England quarter-finals after stopping Ong Yew Sin/Teo Ee Yi’s move.
The defending champion, who was not included in the seed list, ended the opponent who was the eighth seed with 21-18, 21-18.
Bagas explained that one important key is being able to beat your opponent.
“We maintain good communication. Fikri and I trust each other. That’s the key for us to win today’s match,” Bagas explained.
Fikri added two other important points in the form of playing style and fighting power that allowed them to turn things around after being left behind in the two games, including the crisis points towards the end of the second game.
“Earlier, we were quite far behind in the second game, but the opponent is still far from 21 points, so rather than let us go, it’s not certain that we can play well in the third game, so we try to catch up by changing the pattern of play, as well as keep up the enthusiasm,” said Fikri.
Bagas/Fikri also considered that the experience of facing Ong/Teo in previous matches was a very significant asset.
Bagas/Fikri have the chance to defend the All England title, but in the quarter-finals they will face the winner of the match Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto against Lee Jhe Huei/Yang Po Hsuan.
