the essentials Caregivers in the pediatric hemato-oncology department at Toulouse University Hospital are starting an indefinite strike from Monday, October 7, demanding recognition of their care as “critical” and receiving the bonus that goes with it.
Professionals from the pediatric hemato-immune-oncology department of the children’s hospital at Toulouse University Hospital are mobilizing. Childcare workers, nurses, childcare assistants as well as supportive care professionals (psychologists, social workers, dietitians, educators, physiotherapists) are demanding recognition of their service as a critical care service, in accordance with the legislative texts of January and December 2022.
Although these laws recognize the specificity of critical care, the service has not yet benefited from the corresponding premium. In 2023, caregivers requested the application of these texts, but management did not begin the process until 2024. This procedure had already been carried out for other departments of the hospital around ten years ago. years, but the pediatric hemato-oncology department had been omitted.
Caregivers deplore the consequences of this omission. To date, they are neither financially nor professionally recognized. Despite several negotiation meetings, the situation has not evolved, which led staff to decide on an indefinite strike from October 7, 2024.
A crucial point of their demands is the absence of retroactivity of the critical care premium. Although the decree of December 2022 provides for this bonus for complex and urgent care, the administration refuses its retroactive application, contrary to what has been implemented in other similar services, such as at the Montpellier University Hospital.
A rally is planned for 2 p.m. in front of the children’s hospital to raise public awareness and assert their rights.
