NEW YORK — Christmas is just around the corner and for many residents and visitors of the tri-state area, a nice way to celebrate it would be with snowfall, as many call it, having a white Christmas.

But will we have snow this time?

Our region hasn’t had much luck when it comes to seeing snowflakes during this holiday. In fact, the last time Central Park recorded at least an inch of snow was almost two years ago.

We are in the middle of a record stretch without an inch of snow. Monday marks the 673rd day without snow.

The drought marks a truly unusual time for New York City and its neighboring suburbs, which often receive several dozen inches of snow during the winter months.

That brings us to December 25 and the age-old question for this time of year: will we have a white Christmas?

“Don’t count on it,” said our Authority in Time.

The holiday weekend will be dry with temperatures warming a bit with the possibility of some areas enjoying 50 degrees on Christmas Day. Not very good news for those wishing for a white Christmas!
