The equation is very simple: the winner of this Northern derby will take the lead in the championship. This shows the importance of this poster between Lille and Lens, this Sunday, at the end of the seventh day of Ligue 1 (9 p.m.). In the two camps, about 40km apart, the shock is expected firmly. And for the occasion, dozens of Lensois supporters came together to support their players when they left for the city of Lille.
A cheerful and compact crowd cheered the Sang et Ors as they left their hotel, before heading to the Pierre-Mauroy stadium. Grouped behind security barriers, the regulars of Felix Boallert, most of them masked, quickly put aside social distancing in order to encourage Franck Haise’s men as much as possible. In a happy hubbub.
Other fans gathered by the side of the road, near tunnels or on bridges, with smoke bombs and flags. Fireworks were even fired over the highway.
A shock behind closed doors because of the curfew
One way to give strength to the Lensois while this derby at the top will be disputed behind closed doors, due to the curfew established throughout the country to fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.
