Four goals and three saved/missed penalties. In terms of spectacle value, KAA Gent – Standard did not disappoint in the least. The Buffaloes whirled past the visitors in the first half with goals from Cuypers and Tissoudali, but especially had to thank goalkeeper Davy Roef. The penalty phenomenon stopped two eleven meters from Kanga.

Key moment: In the final phase, Standard sees an opportunity when Hjulsager commits a penalty violation on Djenepo. Unleashed KAA Gent blows Standard away

In the second half Standard tried to make something of it. Both Kanga and Sowah tested Roef, but he did not budge. Halfway through the second half, the Ghent goalkeeper had to give in when Kanga nonchalantly punished De Sart’s loss of ball.
Despite the comfortable lead, Ghent still got hot in the final phase. Roef prevented the tying goal on a Vanheusden header and once again emerged as a penalty hero when Kanga botched a penalty for the second time.
Ghent escaped a nail-biting ending and after four league games without a win, they are again victorious. For Standard, an unbeaten run of seven games comes to an end.
