Unknown ambushes taxi drivers and senior citizens – search for witnesses

Cologne (ots) – After two robberies on Wednesday (February 17) in the Weiden district, the Cologne police are looking for a roughly 1.80 meter tall, strong man with a white hoodie. The investigators currently assume that the wanted person violently robbed a senior citizen (71) at the indoor swimming pool on Potsdamer Strasse around 3:45 p.m. and a taxi driver (46) on Bistritzer Strasse around 10 p.m.

Robbery on the elderly woman

Around 3:45 p.m., a 40 to 45-year-old man with light hair spoke to the 71-year-old with “broken German” on a footpath at the indoor pool on Potsdamer Strasse, hit her several times in the face, sprayed her with pepper spray and pulled her with a Pistol threateningly, the wallet from the jacket pocket. With that he ran unrecognized in the direction of two men who were apparently waiting for him.

Assault on the taxi driver

The attack on a 46-year-old taxi driver occurred around 10 p.m. on Bistritzer Strasse. At the previously agreed location, an 18 to 22 year old man lured the 46 year old out of the car under a pretext. An initially invisible accomplice of the young man approached from behind and hit the driver, while the perpetrator who lured the driver out of the taxi sprayed the 46-year-old with pepper spray and threatened with a gun. With the taxi driver’s wallet, both robbers ran to a waiting woman.

Due to the similar inspection of the crime and the local proximity of the two crime scenes, the investigators of the criminal investigation department 14 assume that the perpetrators were the same in both cases. The Cologne police will receive information on 0221 229-0 or by email to [email protected]. (ph / as)
