University “Prof. Dr. Asen Zlatarov” transformed a former disco into a shared space for students – 2024-04-10 15:17:13

Student center Academic café is the new favorite place of the graduates of Burgas State University “Prof. Dr. Asen Zlatarov”.

In it, young people can hold conferences, work on their course projects and communicate over a fragrant cup of coffee.

It was created on the idea of the rector Prof. Dr. Hristo Bozov, MD, in whose platform this project was laid.

The Student Center was officially opened today by Prof. Dr. Hristo Bozov, PhD, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees Dr. Milen Vrabevski and the Chairman of the Student Council Desislava Komunova.

“I am extremely grateful to the Student Council and to Desislava Komunova, because they made a real gem out of a neglected place. Most importantly, all this was achieved through voluntary work and donations. We have shown through you that a university that does not have great financial opportunities can do something like this, which will serve not only the students, but also the teachers to gather here, exchange ideas and organize events! “said Prof. Dr. Hristo Bozov, PhD, who thanked the donors.

The rector announced that he has the support of the municipalities to turn the surrounding space into thematic corners.

Pomorie will present the Museum of Salt and various attractions, Burgas – the Black Sea, Malko Tarnovo – Strandzha, and Karnobat, Aytos and Sungurlare – Stara Planina. The university management will provide a free wi-fi zone.

“Foreign students from 16 countries are studying with us, so we will provide a place for them to represent their countries. We want to show that we are tolerant of everyone and can educate people of all nationalities,” the rector added.

The event was attended by the entire academic leadership of the university, the Deputy Mayor for Culture and Religions in Burgas Municipality Diana Savateva, who delivered a congratulatory address from the Mayor Dimitar Nikolov, the Mayor of Pomorie Ivan Alexiev, Azis Muhamad, a representative from Uzbekistan, Prof. Dr. Colin Meghow, municipal councilors and the chairman of the National Representation of Student Councils – Angel Stoykov.

Academic café is based on the principle of shared spaces, and to make it even more attractive it has a library with 400 books, a bookstore, a conference area, computers and a printer.

It is located on the site of a former discotheque, the building of which the students transformed with a lot of work and diligence.

“For me, this is an exceptional event in the history of the only state university in Southeast Bulgaria. You make me proud, happy and restore my faith in goodness,” said Dr. Milen Vrabevski, who is a well-known philanthropist and philanthropist.

The mayor of Pomorie also did not spare his kind words to the university management.

“In the years University “Prof. Dr. Asen Zlatarov” has proven that he is the foundation of higher education in Burgas, and what has been happening in recent months makes me very happy. Because Burgas, besides everything, is also a student city. What could be better than hearing the name of the state university, which is the flagship of the higher education institutions here,” said Pomorie Mayor Ivan Alexiev. He thanked for the offer to present his municipality with a thematic corner.

The first event in the new center will take place very soon. The Deputy Mayor for Culture in Burgas Municipality, Diana Savateva, proposed to the students to cooperate and make a cultural event together, and they accepted the idea with enthusiasm.

The opening became a celebration and an example for the student community in the country.

“I was extremely impressed by what the rector said – that he has included the development of the student community in his mandate program. You are doing something extraordinary! If other managements of higher education institutions take places that they have given to students, you give something new to them. And the result is that you have a healthy student community that is extremely active,” said Angel Stoykov, president of NPSS.

The cheerleading squad of the university, as well as the amateur group of the College of Tourism, took care of the good mood of the guests. To top it off, the officials planted a Japanese cherry tree that will bloom in front of the Academic café.
