University of Zagreb Scandal: Investigation into 29 Croatian Citizens and Company for Document Forgery and Procurement Fraud

European prosecutors have launched an investigation against 29 Croatian citizens and one company on suspicion of document forgery and procurement fraud at the Faculty of Geodesy of the University of Zagreb.

This is stated in message prosecutor’s office, which is quoted by “European Truth”.

The investigation found that from October 1, 2019 to November 2023, the dean and professor of the Faculty of Geodesy at the University of Zagreb organized tenders related to four research projects worth almost 6 million euros. 85% of this amount was financed from EU funds.

Croatian professors organized 28 tenders in such a way that pre-agreed companies won them. In exchange, the suspects received kickbacks, either personally or through payment for work on their private properties.

In total, more than 2 million euros were laundered through such tenders, of which more than 1.7 million were funds from EU funds.

With them, among other things, the dean and professor of the University of Zagreb bought two cars for the private use of faculty members, and a yacht for almost 600 thousand euros, which was rented out to students instead of research work.

All suspects in the case were detained on Wednesday, November 8, among them the dean of the Faculty of Geodesy at the University of Zagreb and a professor of the same faculty.

Let us remind you that France wants the EU to take problems more seriously conflict of interests and corruption among European officials.
